Thank you for your time and interest in the Ahimsa School of Sound Healing. We greatly appreciate your support and would like to share a bit about how our school came to be.

In 2016, Jay Taylor, our school’s Co-Founder and Director, completed his 8th year teaching students with special needs in a Chicago school. It was time to move on. The school’s principal had other plans and offered Jay the opportunity to revamp the Physical Education Program with a more balanced focus on nutrition, fitness, and mindfulness. It was during this fertile period that Jay began training in different healing modalities that utilized drums, rattles, and tuning forks to alter consciousness. He began bringing these instruments into the school setting to support the wellbeing of his students.

To make a long story short, in June of 2018, Jay “retired” after 10 years of teaching. Two months later he declared himself to be a full time sound meditation facilitator and set an intention to be of service. Since that time Jay has facilitated nearly 800 sound meditations.

When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, months of scheduled sessions were cancelled within days. Over the lockdown Jay took time to share many meditations online and develop new instrumental skills which ultimately led to an encounter with Masin Ouksel, Co-Owner of Ahimsa Yoga Studios. Jay and Masin quickly bonded over their interest in nutrition and specifically “juice feasts”. On a call, Jay broached the subject of a Sound Studio. Masin loved the idea and suggested a Sound School.

Since that initial conversation in June 2020, a lot has happened in the world and a tremendous amount of uncertainty lingers. What is for certain is that we all deserve to be healthy and happy, and sound can help us with that.

Thanks again for the support and we hope to see you in an upcoming class and/or meditation.
